Dear Museum Community –
Our hearts break for Israel after this weekend’s terrorist attacks by Hamas, and we share your pain during this difficult time. We extend our sympathies to members of the Jewish community around the world, and those here in St. Louis, including our survivor and descendant community. Know that we stand with you during this difficult time.
The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum issued this message over the weekend. We share their sentiments.
The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum is outraged by Hamas’s unconscionable attack on Israel, killing hundreds, and targeting Israeli citizens for kidnapping, including a Holocaust survivor, according to the U.S. Department of State.
Museum Chair Stuart E. Eizenstat said, “These vile acts by this terrorist organization must be universally condemned and all hostages immediately released. Our prayers are with all Israelis, including the many Holocaust survivors who helped build the State of Israel, where they could finally live in the freedom and security they deserved after centuries of persecution, and ultimately genocide.”
We also want to direct you to our community’s resources. The Jewish Federation of St. Louis is taking the lead on gathering support for Israel in our community. They are hosting a solidarity gathering this Wednesday, and we hope to see you there.
