‘Survival in Sarajevo’ commemorates the 20th anniversary of the siege of Sarajevo. Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) exec Joshua Fogelson to speak at opening.

Survival in Sarajevo: Jews, Muslims, Serbs and Croats working together during the Bosnian War, 1992-1995, an exhibition commemorating the 20th anniversary of the siege of Sarajevo, will open Sunday, April 1, at 2 p.m. at the Jack C. Taylor Library at Fontbonne University. Joshua M. Fogelson, Executive Director for Strategic Development for the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, will be one of the guest speakers.
An afternoon screening of three Bosnian films on Sunday, March 11, kicked off the exhibition that will continue through the fall of 2012 and will intermittently involve the Jewish community. The films were hosted by the St. Louis Holocaust Museum and Learning Center, one of the co-sponsors of the exhibition. Other co-sponsors include: Centropa, Fontbonne University’s Bosnian Memory Project, St. Louis Rabbinical Association, Congregation Neve Shalom, University of Missouri – St. Louis, and KETC Channel 9, with special thanks to Amy Shaw and Sonya Stevenson.
Another communitywide event with a Jewish component will take place on Sunday, April 15, 3 p.m. with a concert: “The Lost Jewish World of Sarajevo,” featuring Rabbi James Stone Goodman of Neve Shalom and blogger on www.JewishinStLouis.org, at the Fontbonne Library, 2nd floor exhibit space.
