The next film in the Sandra and Mendel Rosenberg Sunday Afternoon Film Series is The Last Stage, screening at 1:00 pm on November 27 in the Holocaust Museum & Learning Center’s theater at 12 Millstone Campus Drive. This powerful film focuses on Martha Weiss, a Jew sent to Auschwitz and chosen to serve as an interpreter. Director and co-writer Wanda Jakubowska shot the film on site in Auschwitz and drew on her own Holocaust experiences, giving the film a chilling sense of authenticity.

Introductory remarks and post screening discussion facilitated by Jennifer Kapczynski, Associate Professor of German, Washington University. Dr. Kapczynski’s research focuses primarily on 20th century literature and film. She is the author of The German Patient: Crisis and Recovery in Postwar Culture (2008) and the co-editor of A New History of German Cinema (2012).

Films in this Sunday series are free and open to the public, although reservations are requested. For further information, call 314-442-3711 or email AGoldfeder@JFedSTL.org. To view upcoming films in the Sandra and Mendel Rosenberg Sunday Afternoon Film Series, visit HMLC.org/FilmSeries.
