Dr. Berenbaum will speak as part of the annual Rachel Miller Lecture, given in honor of International Holocaust Remembrance Day
(St. Louis, December 18, 2023) – Today, the St. Louis Kaplan Feldman Holocaust Museum announced Dr. Michael Berenbaum as the keynote speaker for the 2024 Rachel Miller Lecture, in honor of International Holocaust Remembrance Day. Dr. Berenbaum will give a timely lecture entitled, “The World Must Know: Antisemitism in the Wake of October 7th.”
Dr. Berenbaum is a writer, lecturer, and teacher consulting in the conceptual development of museums and the development of historical films. He is director of the Sigi Ziering Institute: Exploring the Ethical and Religious Implications of the Holocaust at the American Jewish University (formerly the University of Judaism) where he is also a Distinguished Professor of Jewish Studies. From 1988–93 he served as Project Director of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, overseeing its creation.
“Amid these challenging times, we knew that finding a powerful speaker for International Holocaust Remembrance Day was crucial,” said Myron Freedman, Executive Director. “We could not be more honored to have Dr. Berenbaum joining us for this cornerstone program. His experience and knowledge are uniquely suited to speak to both the historic and contemporary challenges of antisemitism.”
Dr. Berenbaum will be presenting the inaugural Rachel Miller Lecture, in honor of International Holocaust Remembrance Day. This lecture will take place each January, and is named in honor of Holocaust survivor, Rachel Miller, who has spoken to thousands about her experience as a hidden child in France. This lecture is made possible with the generous support of Carole & Kenneth Adashek.
“I speak at the St. Louis Kaplan Feldman Holocaust Museum because I survived. During World War II, the nazis killed my family and 6 million Jews. Why? Because they were Jews. I will continue to speak until I no longer can! I am being honored by my dearest friends, Dr. Kenneth Adashek and Carole Adashek. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you,” said Rachel Miller of Carole & Kenneth Adashek’s generous gift.
“Naming this lecture for Rachel is important to me not only because Rachel lost her own family in the Holocaust, but also because she has poured so much of her life into educating young people about the Holocaust, so that it won’t be forgotten and won’t happen again. Rachel deserves this honor because she has worked tirelessly in this effort,” said Carole Adashek.
The lecture will take place at the St. Louis Kaplan Feldman Holocaust Museum on January 28, 2024 at 3:30 pm. The program will be followed by a book signing with Dr. Berenbaum. To find out more, and to reserve tickets, visit www.STLHolocaustMuseum.org/upcoming-events
