The community-wide Yom HaShoah Commemoration, “Bearing Witness for Those Who Cannot: Testimony From the Holocaust,” will take place on Sunday, April 27, at 4 pm at United Hebrew Congregation, 13788 Conway Road, 63141.

In the spirit of Elie Wiesel’s epigram, “For the dead and the living, we must bear witness,” the program will feature eyewitness accounts of the Shoah by Polish child-survivor Marie Cuttler, Lituanian survivor Miriam Poster and Auschwitz survivor Saul Rozen. The commemoration will also include a traditional candle-lighting ceremony, an opportunity for all survivors to memorialize their loved ones, liturgical readings and prayers, and a procession of Torah scrolls that survived the Holocaust.

Yom HaShoah Chair Vera Emmons says, “The committee works very hard each year to make this event as meaningful as possible; honoring our survivors and remembering the victims of the Holocaust. This year’s program will also commemorate the 70th anniversary of the deportation and destruction of the Jewish community of Hungary.”

Music will be performed by Mischa, Tova and Gabriel Braitberg of Elegant Ensembles, son and grandchildren of survivors Szyfra and Gregor Braitberg, of blessed memory, and the United Hebrew Vocal Ensemble.

The program will be interpreted in sign language. For further information please go to HMLC.org or call 314-442-3714.
