The next film in the Sandra and Mendel Rosenberg Sunday Afternoon Film Series will be X-Men First Class, screening at 1 pm on September 27, in the Holocaust Museum’s theatre at Jewish Federation of St. Louis’ Kopolow Building, 12 Millstone Campus Drive. In this prequel to the popular X-men series, the United States government enlists the help of mutants with superhuman abilities to thwart the plans of a malicious dictator. This film, which deals with the concept of otherness as well as the interweaving of Nazi imagery and characters with popular culture, will appeal to the young and the young at heart. Starring James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence, this 2011 film has a running time of 132 minutes.
Introductory remarks and a post screening discussion will be facilitated by Drew Newman, who received a bachelor’s degree in film from Syracuse University. His film, The Man Who Loved Flowers, appeared in the Stephen King Dollar Baby Festival in Los Angeles and Belgium. Films in this Sunday series are free and open to the public.
