The next film in the Sandra and Mendel Rosenberg Sunday Afternoon Film Series will be What Our Fathers Did: A Nazi Legacy, screening at 1:00 pm on October 29 in the J’s Staenberg Arts & Education Building (2 Millstone Campus Drive).
In this powerful documentary, human rights lawyer Philippe Sands, who lost much of his own family to the Holocaust, travels across Europe with two men whose fathers were senior Nazi officers. The three men wrestle with their pasts and conflicting versions of the truth. What Our Fathers Did: A Nazi Legacy, directed by David Evans and produced in 2015, will screen in various languages with English subtitles, with a running time of 92 minutes.
Introductory remarks and a post screening discussion will be facilitated by Brad Prager, Professor of Film Studies and German at the University of Missouri-Columbia. His research areas include Film History, Contemporary German Cinema and Holocaust Studies. His publications include After the Fact: The Holocaust in Twenty –First Century Documentary (2015) as well as a book on German director Werner Herzog and an edited volume entitled Visualizing the Holocaust: Documents, Aesthetics, Memory (2008).
