Holocaust Museum & Learning Center Docent Irl Solomon is the subject of a new book entitled Making a Difference: The Story of Irl Solomon & The Difference One Teacher Made in the Schools of East St. Louis, talking about his career as a teacher.

The Museum will recognize Solomon’s book and celebrate his 1,000th docent tour, which occurred this year, with a program at the Kaplan Feldman Complex, 12 Millstone Campus Drive, at 1 pm on Sunday, May 19. Solomon will sign the book after a discussion led by author Joe Regenbogen. Dessert reception to follow; dietary laws observed.

Solomon began at the Museum in 2002, and this is his 17th year. He taught for 38 years in East St. Louis schools, beginning in 1964. The last 29 years were at East St. Louis Senior High, retiring in 2001. He won two Teacher of the Year Awards and taught an estimated 5,000 kids.
