3 Survivors spoke and 12 docents led the groups who were from the StL region, Iowa and Indiana.
The St. Louis Holocaust Museum and Learning Center broke its daily visitor attendance record on Thursday, April 12, when 400 students on seven scheduled tours went through the Museum. The students were from middle and high schools, private and religious schools. In addition, there was a significant number of walk ins that day as well.
“Typically, April and early May are the busiest months for school visitors,” said Museum Coordinator Andrew Goldfeder. “There is an average in April of three to four school groups a day, or about 175 kids. Annually, the Museum hosts between 25,000 and 30,000 students.”
The mix included groups from St. Louis City and County, two from Indiana, one of which took the bus from the Delmar Station Metro Stop, one from Iowa and a group of adults from the Jewish Labor Committee, organized by the Jewish Community Relations Council. Twelve docents led tours and three Survivors spoke.
“Docents all agreed that the day went like ‘clockwork,’ largely thanks to their flexibility and the well-orchestrated logistical handling by Goldfeder,” said Museum Chair Margi Lenga Kahn. “The mission of the Museum is to teach the history and lessons of the Holocaust to as many students as possible, without compromising the quality of their experience. Today’s schedule truly exemplified our goal,” Kahn added.
