“Hell Before Their Very Eyes: American Soldiers Liberate Concentration Camps in Germany, April 1945” is the focus of a presentation and book signing with author Dr. John C. McManus. The program will be held at the Holocaust Museum and Learning Center, 12 Millstone Campus Drive, on Sunday, March 6 at 1:00 pm.
Military historian John C. McManus will discuss his book, Hell Before Their Very Eyes, which focuses on the experiences of the soldiers who liberated Ohrdruf, Buchenwald and Dachau and their determination to bear witness to this horrific history. Drawing on a rich blend of archival sources and thousands of firsthand accounts, this powerful book offers an unflinching look at the horrors American soldiers uncovered in Nazi concentration camps.
John C. McManus, award-winning professor and author, is Curators’ Professor of U.S. Military History at the Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T). Author of 11 books on military history and related topics, he is in frequent demand as a speaker and expert commentator.
