The following poem was written by Hilda Lebedun and shared as part of the Memory Project.
The heat is oppressive,
the humidity is high,
the hallways in all the buildings are hot.
Looking through the window
of my living room,
The blue sky is brilliant in sunshine
with few fluffy clouds.
This beautiful panorama
is from inside.
The birds and squirrels have found a hiding place,
But the people are working outside.
I wish I would be in an air-conditioned bubble
Offering cool drinks all around.
I wish to be able
To create magic
With a blink of an eye
To have air conditioning
For people who have no means,
To have the type of luxury as,
By the grace of God,
Have I.
