“On the Destruction of Civil Liberties and Democracy in Nazi Germany” will be the focus of a lecture presented by Dr. Warren Rosenblum on Sunday, October 18, 2015, at 1:00 pm at Jewish Federation of St. Louis Kopolow Building, 12 Millstone Campus Drive. Dr. Rosenblum will explore how German doctors in pursuit of “racial improvement” helped destroy the rule of law and laid the groundwork for mass murder under the Nazis.

Warren Rosenblum is professor of history, director of European studies, and Chair of the History, Politics, and International Relations Department at Webster University. He is the author of Beyond the Prison Gates: Punishment and Welfare in Germany, 1850-1933 (Chapel Hill, 2009). He has published essays on the history of punishment, the courts, and antisemitism in Germany, including, most recently, “Jews, Justice, and the Power of ‘Sensation’ in the Weimar Republic” in Leo Baeck Institute Yearbook 57 (2013). He is currently preparing to write a history of mental disability in modern Europe.

The lecture will be followed by a reception, dietary laws observed. The presentation is open to the public and free of charge. However, seating is limited and reservations are required. For further information, or to RSVP, please contact Andrew Goldfeder at 314-442-3711 or AGoldfeder@JFedSTL.org.
