Public Program: Croissants & Conversation - Prayer for the French Republic

April 23, 2026 | 2:00 pm

About this Program:

A fascinating look at the true history behind NJT’s St. Louis premiere production of Joshua Harmon’s Prayer for the French Republic. Taking place in 1945-1946 and 2015, the play follows five generations of a family in Paris who survive the Holocaust only to face new threats seventy years later. Dr. Dorian Stuber will provide an overview of the history of Jewish life in France, focusing on the years leading up to and following World War II. He will also share the stories of some of those in our own St. Louis Jewish community whose family history connects them to France. Coffee and croissants will be served.

Dr. Stuber is the dramaturg for Prayer for the French Republic, as well as Emeritus Professor at Hendrix College and member of the Missouri Holocaust Education and Awareness Commission.

Prayer for the French Republic runs from April 16 – May 3 at the Jewish Community Center’s Wool Studio Theatre. For tickets and more information click here.

Special thanks to the Rubin and Gloria Feldman Family Educational Institute for their support of Prayer for the French Republic and this and other associated outreach events.
