The next film in the Sandra and Mendel Rosenberg Sunday Afternoon Film Series will be The Book Thief, screening at 1 pm on March 29 in the Holocaust Museum’s theatre at Jewish Federation Kopolow Building, 12 Millstone Campus Drive. Based on the popular young adult novel, this film tells the story of a young girl living with an adoptive German family during the Nazi era. Initially illiterate, Liesel becomes a compulsive “borrower” of books and a thoughtful observer of the events unfolding around her. The excellent cast includes Geoffrey Rush and Emily Watson. This 2013 film has a running time of 131 minutes; highly recommended for young adults.

Introductory remarks and a post screening discussion will be facilitated by Warren Rosenblum, Associate Professor in the Department of History, Politics and International Relations, Webster University. His most recent publication is Jews, Justice and the Power of ‘Sensation’ in the Weimar Republic, in the 2013 Year Book of the Leo Baeck Institute. Films in this Sunday series are free and open to the public, but reservations are requested. To RSVP or for further information, call 314-442-3711 or email AGoldfeder@JFedSTL.org.
