The next film in the Sandra and Mendel Rosenberg Sunday Afternoon Film Series will be A Brivele der Mamen (A Letter to Mother), screening at 1:00 pm on November 26 in the Holocaust Museum’s theater at the Jewish Federation of St. Louis Kopolow Building, 12 Millstone Campus Drive.

Released in September, 1939, this tale of family disintegration and poverty serves as a metaphor for the displacements facing European Jewry at that time. One of the last Yiddish films made in Poland before the Nazi invasion, the film tells the story of a mother’s persistent efforts to support her family in pre-WWI Polish Ukraine and the family’s eventual immigration to the United States in search of a brighter future. This film, a St. Louis premiere directed by Joseph Green, will screen in Yiddish with English subtitles, with a running time of 106 minutes.

Introductory remarks and a post screening discussion will be facilitated by Diane Everman, archivist and curator of the exhibition, “Untold Sacrifices: The St. Louis Jewish Community in the Great War.” The film is a St. Louis premiere and is a newly restored classic, with newly written subtitles.

Films in this Sunday series are free and open to the public, although reservations are required. For further information, call 314-442-3711 or email AGoldfeder@JFedSTL.org or visit HMLC.org/get-involved/attend-event/rosenberg-film-series/.
